Reduce Humidity |
I. Air Circulation and Ventilation:
- Open your doors and windows to let fresh air into your house, especially on arid and windy days.
- Use Exhaust Fans: To eliminate humid air from your home, install exhaust fans in your laundry area, bathroom, and kitchen.
- Ceiling Fans: Increase air circulation with ceiling fans to aid in drying out moist areas.
2. Dehumidifiers:
- Cordless Dehumidifiers: To remove moisture from the air, get an electric dehumidifier and utilize it. They work well in small areas with plenty of humidity, such as basements.
3. Houseplants:
- Natural Dehumidifiers: Boston Ferns, Peace Lilies, and Spider Plants are a few examples of houseplants that naturally draw moisture from the atmosphere. Put them in strategic locations throughout your house to help lower humidity.
4. Absorbent Materials:
- Place bowls loaded with rock salt in your home's particularly moist locations. Moisture from the air will be absorbed by the salt.
- Activated Charcoal: This material works wonders at absorbing smells and moisture. To lower humidity levels, place charcoal briquettes in bowls throughout the house.
5. Handmade Dehydrators:
Rice or Silica Gel: Put bowls of raw rice or silica gel—which is sometimes found in shoe or electronics packaging—in cupboards or other closed areas where moisture likes to gather. These substances efficiently absorb moisture.
